At Bowman Elementary and Polaris K-12, Sophie leads elementary school students in Student Government with a focus on student voice, civic engagement, and inclusive leadership. She guides students in planning school-wide events, organizing spirit days, and addressing community needs, all while fostering skills in collaboration, communication, and decision-making. Through her mentorship, students take ownership of their school culture and learn what it means to lead with empathy and purpose.

At every school where she has taught in the Anchorage School District, Sophie Wildwood has been an active member of the Sunshine Committee—a staff-led team dedicated to fostering a positive, caring school culture. Through organizing celebrations, recognizing life events, and offering support during challenging times, Sophie has helped build morale and strengthen community among colleagues, reflecting her deep belief that nurturing educators is just as important as nurturing students.

As a member of the Bowman Garden Committee, plays a key role in integrating the school garden into the heart of the learning community. Collaborates with staff, families, and community partners to coordinate seasonal planning, organize volunteer efforts, and secure grant funding—ensuring the garden served as both a vibrant outdoor classroom and a source of fresh produce for local organizations. Officially represented students on the advisory legislative body working with faculty, classified staff, administrative staff to form recommendations regarding policy, regulation, and community matters which affect the University's general welfare and its educational purposes and effectiveness. Provided consulting services to the UAA Chancellor, Provost and Vice-Chancellors, System Governance Council, President, and Board of Regents.

Elected Spring 2014 with 545 votes, the most UAA student votes of confidence of any member within the organization's history. Represented the student body ethically in Assembly and committee meetings. Collaborated with local community members to bring therapy dogs to campus during finals week. Created an interactive online learning module outlining expectations and procedures for new USUAA officeholders. Gave public testimony on behalf of students at University of Alaska Board of Regents meetings.
August 2014 - May 2015
Lead event planner of successful USUAA hosted events including the Homecoming Dance, annual Thanskgiving Day Feast, and Masquerade Ball. Initiated collaborative efforts in the USUAA Student Government Mayoral Debate in April 2015. Fostered USUAA involvement in the Municipality of Anchorage’s Adopt-A-Road program, hosting three road clean-up events throughout the summer of 2015.

Responsible for serving as the Chair of the Finance Committee, tracking the status of budget line items and funds remaining, as well as advising the Assembly on all matters relating to the organization's finances. Ensured USUAA Assembly members upheld a high standard of fiscal responsibility within the $200K+ organizational budget.

Ensured USUAA members fulfill their representative responsibilities and represent their constituents ethically under the direction of the USUAA governing documents. Created and implemented new USUAA office hour procedure to ensure accountability for USUAA membership contributions.

Responsible for gathering information regarding student musical and entertainment interests to organize and host concerts and events such as A Cappella Festivella, Jack White, Nick Offerman, Garfunkel and Oates, and Demetri Martin among others hosted at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Successfully completed this leadership development program, participating in leadership retreats, workshops, and enrichment activities. Achieved over 80 hours of community service in the Anchorage community. Through the Emerging Leaders Program, solely planned the North Hall Graduation in April 2014 and 2015. Selected out of a large pool of applicants to attend a LeaderShape Conference in Boston, Massachusetts in Summer 2014. Presented on “the Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback” at UAA’s Leadership Conference in April of 2015.
